About

We read too many POS bills.

Mamal exists because the restaurant software business quietly became a fee business — and somebody should build the alternative.

The problem we couldn’t unsee

Sit with enough restaurant owners and the same folder comes out. The POS statement with the fee nobody remembers agreeing to. The “free” hardware that turned out to be a four-year lease. The processing rate that was a great deal until the first full statement arrived. The contract that costs more to leave than to endure.

None of these owners were careless. The system is simply built so that the true price is unknowable until you’re inside it — and expensive to escape once you know.

Restaurant margins are famously thin. The software that runs the restaurant shouldn’t be one of the things making them thinner.

What we’re building instead

Mamal is a complete restaurant platform — point of sale, online ordering, loyalty, gift cards, inventory and food cost, team, and accountant-ready reporting — built on four commitments we treat as product requirements, not marketing:

Built in the open

We build Mamal alongside a small group of early-access restaurants. They run the real software, tell us what’s wrong with it, and steer what gets built next. When something on this site works today, we say so; when it’s still in development — like the register app and kitchen screens — we say that too, right on the page.

Every screenshot on this site is the real product running with demo data. We think that should be unremarkable. In this industry, it isn’t.

Talk to us

If you run a restaurant and any of this sounds like your folder of statements, we’d like to build this with you. Join the early access list and we’ll be in touch — a person, not a sequence.
